The Manufacturer Management screen lets you create and maintain a central database of manufacturers. Once created, manufacturer records can be assigned to any WooCommerce product, ensuring every item in your store carries the correct GPSR-compliant responsible person information.
Accessing Manufacturer Management
Navigate to GPSR Compliance → Manufacturers in your WordPress admin. You will see a table listing all existing manufacturer records with their name, address, EU status, and the number of products assigned.
Adding a New Manufacturer
Click the “Add New Manufacturer” button at the top of the page. A form will appear with the following fields:
Required Fields
- Manufacturer Name – The legal company name as it appears on product packaging or official documents.
- Street Address – Full postal address including street, building number, and apartment/suite if applicable.
- City – City or municipality.
- Postal Code – ZIP or postal code.
- Country – Select from the dropdown. This determines whether the manufacturer is inside or outside the EU.
- Email Address – A valid contact email for the manufacturer. This will appear in GPSR-compliant product information.
- Phone Number – Contact phone number including country code (e.g., +49 30 12345678).
Optional Fields
- Website URL – The manufacturer’s official website.
- Company Registration Number – VAT ID or other official registration number.
EU Status Checkbox
The “Manufacturer is based in the EU” checkbox is critical for GPSR compliance. When a manufacturer is located outside the European Union, the GPSR regulation requires an EU-based Authorised Representative to be designated.
When this checkbox is unchecked (non-EU manufacturer), additional fields appear:
EU Authorised Representative Fields
- Representative Name – Legal name of the EU-based authorised representative.
- Representative Address – Full postal address within the EU.
- Representative Email – Contact email for the representative.
- Representative Phone – Contact phone number for the representative.
These representative fields become required when the manufacturer is non-EU. The plugin will not allow you to save the record without filling them in.
Editing a Manufacturer
Click on any manufacturer name in the list to open the edit form. All fields can be modified. Changes are saved immediately when you click “Update Manufacturer”.
Important: When you update a manufacturer record, the changes automatically propagate to all products that reference this manufacturer. You do not need to edit products individually.
Assigning Manufacturers to Products
There are three ways to assign a manufacturer to a WooCommerce product:
- Product Edit Screen – Open any product, scroll to the “GPSR Compliance” meta box, and select a manufacturer from the dropdown.
- Bulk Edit – Use the Bulk Edit wizard to assign a manufacturer to multiple products at once.
- CSV Import – Include the manufacturer ID in the
gpsr_manufacturer_idcolumn during CSV import.
Deleting a Manufacturer
To delete a manufacturer, hover over the record in the list and click “Delete”. You will be asked to confirm. If the manufacturer is currently assigned to any products, you will see a warning with the number of affected products. Those products will have their manufacturer field cleared upon deletion.
Best Practices
- Create manufacturer records before importing products to streamline the assignment process.
- Use the official legal name exactly as it appears on registration documents.
- Always verify that non-EU manufacturers have a valid EU Authorised Representative on file.
- Periodically review manufacturer records to ensure contact information stays current.
